Who was LHS APAC

LHS Telekommunikation was a German based company with their headquarter in Frankfurt.  It was a privately owned company with the major ownership by Mr. Hartmut Lademacher, Dr. Joachim Hertel and Dr. Rainer Zimmermann and other former IBM group managers.  In 1997, the LHS Group inc. was publicly listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange in the U.S.A and the DAX stock exchange in Germany.  Market Capital at the openning was $77m USD but the capital value grew very quickly to make it valued at $4Bn USD with operations all throughout the world.

 

 

The Clients of LHS APAC.

LHS Telekommunication supplied a GSM Customer Care & Billing System with Mediation Device API to the Telecommunication Service Providers globally.  Back in the late 90’s, many of the TSP’s were limited to analogue mobile and fixed line communications.  Governments worldwide openned their network spectrum to allow GSM (Global Standard for Mobile) communications.  Totally different data structures were needed and it was far easier to buy a new billing system that supported GSM.  LHS were perfectly positioned to offer a GSM Billing System especially in Asia Pacific as their technologies were designed and structured from ground up om GSM.

LHS had customers in Asia Pacific as follows:

  • Maxis in Malayasia;
  • Excelcomindo in Indonesai;
  • Sunday, Peoples Phone, Smartone and Hutchison in HongKong;
  • Chunghwa Telecom, Far Eastone and Taiwan Telecom in Taiwan.

Alliance Partners and Channels were built with Accenture, Sun Microsystems and Computer & Technologies.

Why Hire Mr. Logue

In January 1996, Mr. Logue was the contracted program manager at Maxis Binariang in Malaysia with LHS APAC as a key supplier of their billing system.  He was responsible for the Integration Architecture and Testing of the entire Customer Care & Billing Systems environment, the back end bill print and the payment systems.  Every month all new functionality from all the systems had to pass through the Integration Tesing Environment successfully before being released into production operations.

LHS APAC quickly recognised the program / project management, human resources & interpersonal skills and the account management and business development experince of Mr. Logue.  LHS APAC were short on expeirenced resources in the region especially with the impending release of GSM licenses later in 1996.  So LHS APAC decided to hire him at the end of 1996 as the General Manager of Greater China based in Hongkong.

I met Mr. Darren Logue on the Maxis Binariang Malaysia project when he was the Program Manager responsible for all commercial interactions, negotiation and program management of the integration with LHS APAC.  He was very capable and experienced from a delivery and operations perspective but more so astute commercially.

 

LHS APAC contracted him to run our Great China operations as General Manager responsible for sales, revenue and gross profit.  His remitt included Hongkong, Taiwan, Peoples Republic of China and Macau for business development, delivery and software maintenance of projects for telecommunications service providers or Alliance Channel & Partners.

 

During his assignment with LHS APAC he secured 7 new sales, delivered those accounts successfully to clients, and formed key alliance channels for teh region.  Mr. Logue worked successfully as part of the regional executive team and was a pleasure to interact and very happy with the financial results.

 

Mr. Logue’s contract would have been extended in Asia Pacific but he was required by the corporation in Latin America.
